MMORPG.com''s Derek Gordon recently spoke with Robert Peeler, the Community Planner and Service Manager for Square Enix''s Final Fantasy XIV about the game. Launch Info Here is a pre-alpha look at some of the things I can confirm we will see with Final Fantasy XIV. Let''s start with the biggest question I have been hearing from a lot of people. What is going to happen to Final Fantasy XI? I can confirm that Final Fantasy not only will remain supported by Square Enix, I can also tell you that a new lead developer has been hired to continue working on Final Fantasy XI. If anyone was worried about it, you can rest assured that XI will remain a focus for Square Enix. The folks over at One Last Continue sat down with FFXIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka and global online producer Sage Sundi at this year''s GamesCom for an interview on Square Enix''s sophomore MMOG effort, Final Fantasy XIV. The interview has produced some interesting information, namely, that Final Fantasy XIV would feature cross-platform play between the PC and PS3, but it doesn''t end there either! In addition to cross-platform play, international servers will also be a focus. How will this affect naming conflicts with such a global and multi-platform community sharing the same space? Square Enix seems keen on the idea of making use of surnames this time around, so, for example, if two players want the name Paranoos, one could choose a surname, like say, Volvere, and voila! Problem solved!According to a comment given to VG247 at GamesCom by FFXIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka, Square Enix is in discussions with Microsoft regarding bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the XBOX 360. While that is certainly great news,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it''s not all peachy. Discussions are currently being held up due to logistical issues involving XBOX Live. According to Tanaka, even if the 360 version becomes a reality, it will not be part of the simultaneous PC and PS3 release of the game due sometime next year. Hiromichi Tanaka on the situation: ??For FFXIV,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that??s something we??re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That??s one of the reasons it??s not going to be launched at that point.?? Recently, the guys over at FFXIV Core solicited the fan community''s questions for an interview they were to do at GamesCom with the folks from Square Enix. Well, the results of that interview are now up! The guys at FFXIVCore sat down with Final Fantasy XIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka for an exclusive interview, and we''ve got the skinny! Mr. Tanaka reveals to us a number of things, for one, like FFXI before it, FFXIV will not allow players to jump. This is fairly odd for an MMOG releasing in 2010, but alas, no dice on jumping. Also, like FFXI, FFXIV will focus primarily on PvE content, that means PvP offerings will be fairly slim and limited to things like sporting events that FFXI eventually included. One departure from FFXI that FFXIV makes is the abandoning of the PlayOnline account system. The game will instead utilize SquareEnix ID, which should be something to cheer about. I''m not personally familiar with the madness involved in the PlayOnline system, but I''ve heard some pretty interesting stories about the system''s pitfalls. Instancing will also be utilized in the game, though not for everything. The Guildleves system for example will make use of instancing, so that other players cannot interfere with you. Some raid content will also be instanced. For the overworld, however, the game will be entirely seamless, with no zoning whatsoever. Players will be able to freely roam the world, a''la World of Warcraft. Speaking of the world, how big is it? Mr. Tanaka explains that the size of Eorzea will be somewhat smaller than the original Vana''diel that launched with FFXI,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but he does go on to say that the smaller land mass will be filled with much more content and be more detailed. Quality, not quantity! Also, a quote on exp loss: Can we expect exp loss? We''re still adjusting and discussing this. It may or may not be an exp-loss when you die in FFXIV. But it will be a lot less than it''s in FFXI. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as said we might not include an exp loss at all in FFXIV. In the alpha version we have exp loss currently, but this is still being adjusted, since it''s an alpha version. So it''s not decided on. Mr. Tanaka''s comments on the game''s system requirements are also interesting: System Requirements? We''re not done with analyzing this just yet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it''s going to be fairly high since FFXIV is going to be on HD on Playstation 3.
