History
In 1860, Giovanni Panerai, founded Paneria with the first shop in Florence on the Ponte alle Grazie working with Swiss watch manufacturers. Giovanni’s grandson worked with the watches and created high precision mechanism, which provided these beautifully crafted watches with such precision that they were soon the supplier of the Royal Italian Navy for their creation of precision instruments. Their famous line of Radiomir and Luminor watches happened to be used by Italian frogmen in order to synchronize the sinking of enemy naval vessels during World War II. During the years between 1938 and 1993, the Panerai watchmaker crafted 300 watches for the Italian military but after this time when the watches were no longer cost effective to the military they began turning toward to the civilian market.
The watches did not make a huge hit in the civilian market until Sylvester Stallone purchased one in Rome to wear for the shooting of the film Daylight. After this, he ordered a few more Luminor watches to give as gifts with his signature on the back — Slytech. This put the name back in style and on the minds of many that wanted this elegant precision timepiece on their wrist.
Today
Panerai watches come in four main lines which include Historic, Contemporary, Manifattura, and Special Editions. The majority of all watches are only ran for a limited amount such as 500, 1000, 2000, or 4000 units and each one carries an issue number the back of the case. Special Editions are created each year. An example is the Panerai-Luminor Marina that originally sold in the 1940’s but made a comeback or reissue in 2006 along with the original 1936 California Dial Radiomir.

These timepieces were designed with the characteristics of the Italian tradition as well as a new and unique design. The Panerai that are loved by so many were maintained with new features inspired by the Ferrari cars. The main eye catching features are the Ferrari logo and the prancing horse.
The Panerai Radiomir range has a notable large size and water resistant case. Other Radiomir specifications include the cushion case, haute horlogerie movements, wire loop strap attachments, and a 45 mm diameter case. The metals used for this exquisite timepiece are special AISI 316 L steel that are free from phosphorus and 18 ct solid pink gold. This is the timepiece that was originally designed for the Royal Italian Navy in 1938 and was reproduced for today’s market in 1997 with a limited number of only 60 units created.

Production of the Luminor Daylight Chrono began in 2006 and is still in production today. The movement is Calibre IP XII with 46 hours of power reserve, and water resistant to 100 meters. The dial color is black,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the bezel and case are brushed steel along with a solid caseback, 2.5mm sapphire crystal, and a 4mm diameter.

The Radiomir Chrono was manufactured as an exclusive in 2003 in which only 10 watches were produced offering features such as Venus Calibre 185 movement, water resistant to 30 meters and no power reserve. The bezel and case are polished platinum with a 1.5mm sapphire crystal and a diameter of 42mm.
